Dealing with Plumbing Odors

sunny-plumber-vanConsidering the nature of your plumbing system and the different jobs that it does, the fact that “plumbing odors” can be a problem really should not come as too much of a shock. That being said, you should not just be willing to put up with plumbing odors because you think they’re just part of the deal. And you certainly shouldn’t settle for burning matches or lighting a candle just to cover up the plumbing odors that you encounter.

Instead, we recommend that you tackle the problem at its source, which is why our plumbers in Las Vegas want to share some tips with you. Don’t get us wrong—there are certainly times in which you’ll want to light a candle or spray some air freshener in the bathroom. It shouldn’t be viewed as a real solution to a plumbing problem, though, and you should be aware of warning signs that there is something serious at play. Contact us with any questions.

Smelly Drains

A lot of folks will point the accusatory finger at their toilets when they have a smelly bathroom. We get it, and it’s quite understandable. However, it seems that some people overlook just how foul the odors coming from their drains can be. It may not be the obvious conclusion, but your drains can definitely be the source of foul plumbing odors in your house. That begs of the question of: why?

Well, there are a few reasons. It’s possible that you have a dry P-trap. The P-trap in your drain is there to prevent odors, and does so by maintaining a barrier of water in the pipe. If the P-trap should dry out, however, then the sewer odors can come right up into your living space. Of course, you may also just need to have very dirty drains cleaned out. If your drains are dirty, you might simply have food and other materials basically rotting away in your drains.

Sewer Line Leaks

This is a major one. If there is a leak in your sewer line or at any of its connection points, well, you can count on pretty foul odors emanating from your property. And into your property. There are a lot of different reasons why your sewer line may run into such problems.

You may have a very old line that is corroded through. It’s possible that shifting soil has led to damages, or even that tree roots have burst into your pipe. That’s right.  Tree roots can be so motivated by nourishment that they can actually break into your pipes. In some cases it may be possible to repair the sewer line, but a sewer line replacement may actually be your best option.

Poor Water  Quality

Did you know that your water itself could be the source of your plumbing odors. There could be bacteria in your water.  Maybe there is just too high a concentration of chlorine making your drinking water smell like a swimming pool.  Whatever the case may be, we have the water quality systems necessary to get everything straightened out.
